How to Optimize Your Sales Funnel

Optimize Your Sales FunnelOne of the absolute best ways to create leverage is to optimize your sales funnel.

Your sales funnel is how people come into, and then move through, your business.

For example, they might give your their email in exchange for access to a webinar (Step 1), then you make an offer for a low dollar sale (Step 2), and then you make an offer for your core service or product, a higher dollar sale (Step 3) and then you continue to build a relationship with them and over time make additional offers (Step 4+).

You MUST Know Your Numbers

In the online marketing world we talk about optimization, conversions, click-through’s… all this “data” stuff and it can be difficult to figure out what to measure and how to measure it – and heck, why you would even want to measure it!

The reason data about how people are coming into your business and then moving through your sales funnel is so important, is because it’s the starting point for optimization.

If you can increase your numbers — increase your opt-ins, increase your sales, etc. — then you’ve increased your customer value and you make more money. You’ve optimized your funnel and created leverage – the ability to do more with less. And if you can optimize each step of your funnel, you’ll see exponential returns.

How to Optimize Your Funnel

The first step is to make sure you’re collecting data. At the very least, make sure you have Google Analytics installed on your websites. Many other platforms you use regularly likely have analytics built in, so make sure you check them out and get familiar with what you see (e.g., Facebook Insights, LeadPages Analytics).

The second step is to begin testing each step of your funnel (this is often called split-testing). Test your headlines, your offers, your price points, the background colors and images, button colors and texts, etc. Test everything, but only change one thing at a time so you know what makes the difference.

And then it’s easy: Select the items that win in each of your tests.
